Visiting More than One Coupon Websites, Does it Make any Sense?

Article by Siddhartha Bhattacharyya

There are few online shoppers, who have somehow expressed their annoyance about the over population of coupon website; if you google for promotional codes for any store, you have decided to buy from, you can see more than few hundreds, if not more, websites displaying coupons. As such, these websites mostly integrate coupons from different online retailers. The promotional codes are almost identical and offers also look almost the same.

But those online shoppers, who have been redeeming coupons for quite sometime now, might have realized the requirement for existence of various coupon websites since they understand that searching for coupon in any single website may not suffice. It is to be remembered that whenever you see a field to enter promotional code during the checkout process on any retailer’s website, there is the possibility to locate a coupon code for that retailer. So, coupon devotees will definitely search for the code.

On the other hand each promotional code is subject to a limited time validity. Often, the retailers allow the codes to survive for only few days. It may not be possible for all websites to publish the new promotional code immediately. Moreover, the code may not be free from typos. So, there is every possibility that when you try such codes, you may not receive the discount leading to an absolutely frustrating experience. Regarding typos and low success rate, user contributed websites are found to be rather unreliable.

What does the term ‘success rate’ mean?

Roughly, this is the percentage of number of times a code has been used successfully and the number of attempts actually made to redeem it. For example, we may consider five online shoppers have tried to redeem a promotional code, and out of those five, only one shopper has actually been able to redeem it. Therefore, the success rate will be (1/5)*100, i.e., 20%. Although it is a common advice to use promotional codes with higher success rate, but, this uncertainty can be avoided using verified codes.Fortunately, there are lots of websites, which display verified codes besides the user submitted one. There are some websites, which show both – with the verified codes at the top and user submitted code below the verified ones.

However, considering the time factor it is to be admitted that it may not be logical to conclude that all coupon websites will display every promotional coupon codes immediately. It is rather unlikely. This is a fact even when the website might appear in the first page of search result.

Further, the retailers may select to distribute exclusive promotional codes, which carry more discounts, through some preferred websites. In that case, it is very much important to get the code from that website.

Therefore, in order to avoid a promo offer getting unnoticed, or, to find a better offer, it seems perfectly logical to visit good number of websites instead of relying upon one or two top websites.
